The Tongariro crossing shuttle can take you to either end of this track, but it is best to walk from Mangatepopo towards Ketetahi. These changes include a four hour time restriction for private vehicles at Mangatepopo Road’s end. This allows visitors to take short walks but those who want to complete the entire hike, which can take six to eight hours, will need to use shuttle transportation, according to DOC.

Return transfers from Tongariro Lodge to Tongariro Lodge are $55 each with our Tongariro Crossing Shuttle. This 7 to 8 hour day journey is a ‘must-experience’ while visiting New Zealand. Should the weather not be suitable for the crossing, alternative spectacular, one-day walks will be provided by our guide.

Shuttle services are available from Whakapapa Village and National Park Village, Turangi. Ohakune, Raetihi. They pick up visitors at the end of Mangatepopo Road and take them to the start.
